Match facts

  • Arsenal has not conceded in any of their three home fixtures to Russian clubs.
  • The north London giant has lost only once at home vs a Russian side (W2 D1 L1).
  • In their overall record, however, the Premier League outfit has lost more games than won (W2 D2 L4).
  • CSKA has only three victories in 19 clashes with English clubs (W3 D5 L11).
  • Armeytsi has only one win on English soil (D3, L5) and has lost their last five fixtures against Premier League sides.

This fixture is one of many tricky tests lying between Arsenal and the Europa League title. The Gunners must win this prize as they know is their only route to the Champions League next season.

First, they must overcome CSKA Moskva, whom they host at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday. Wenger’s side heads into this game on the back of a 3-0 win over Stoke in which they struggled but triumphed nonetheless.

That game saw Alexandre Lacazette mark his return from injury with a goal. The Frenchman is fit but it remains unknown whether he will replace Welbeck in the lineup. Aubameyang is cup-tied and is thus ineligible to play.

The Russian side boasts a good away form, winning five of their seven European games on the road this season. Only one of those ended in defeat, losing 2-1 at Man United, giving them hope of registering a victory at the Emirates Stadium.
