It will take something other than the ordinary for Chelsea to get into the Top 4.

Hope is almost lost for the Blues in their quest to secure qualification into next season’s Champions League after suffering a 3-1 defeat in their own backyard to Tottenham. Despite going in front via an Alvaro Morata strike, the current league holders were pegged right back by a Christian Eriksen stunner. Dele Alli finished off the job by, once again, scoring a brace against Conte’s men.

The Italian manager has been heavily criticised on social media for his reluctance to make changes to his side while defeat beckoned. However, the former Juventus manager only cited ill-luck as the element blame considering he expected his side to take a lead into the second-half.

“I think our first half was really good,” Conte told Sky Sports after the game.

“I think if the first half finished with 2-0 to us I think it would be fairer than the 1-1.

“Then in the second half we started well, then we conceded the second goal, we lost the confidence. It was very difficult to come back," he added.

“It’s a pity because we all knew the chance we had to try to reduce the gap with Tottenham.

“Now the situation is very difficult to play in the Champions League for next season.”

Currently, eight points separate his side and 4th-placed Tottenham Hotspur who has accumulated 64 points after 31 games.
