Match facts

  • This will be the first-ever match between Iceland and Peru.

  • Iceland has played seven games against CONMEBOL teams. They have won only one (against Bolivia), drawn one more (against Chile) and lost five (two vs Brazil, two vs Chile and one vs Uruguay).

  • Perú will face France and Denmark (UEFA countries) in the FIFA World Cup. Iceland will battle Argentina in summer's competition.

Team news

Iceland gets to this match after being handed a 3-0 loss by Mexico. Coach Helmir Hallgrimsson will want to erase that bad look by putting up a better show for those in attendance. Gylfi Sigurdsson's absence due to injury still gives the team's coach a bit of a headache, and their main goal against Peru will be to find a suitable replacement for the most talented Icelandic player if he isn't able to recover in time to play the FIFA World Cup.

As for Los Incas, their hopes of success in the World Cup reached new heights with their win against Croatia. Due to a possible dip in form by their suspended captain Paolo Guerrero, coach Ricardo Gareca might use this game to find his replacement. Co-captain Jefferson Farfán and goalscoring sensation Raul Ruidiaz seem to be destined for the job. Let's see if they have what it takes to fill that void.
