Fiorentina reveal new tribute for departed captain

Fiorentina reveal new tribute for the late Davide Astori

March 20, 2018 By Oscar Rojas
The 31-year old footballer died in his sleep from a heart attack hours before facing Udinese, forcing Serie A games to be postponed.

The unfortunate loss of Davide Astori has prompted all sort of tributes by fans, fomer colleagues and teams where the player showed his class, and now, Fiorentina will provide one more that will have his name remembered for ages.

Speaking in an interview with Italian newspaper Premium Sport, Fiorentina's president Mario Cognini announced how future generations of "Viola" players will know about the player and his legacy at the club.

"We will dedicate our training complex to Davide, because this was his home. From now on, our training grounds will be known as 'Centro Sportivo Davide Astori'. We intend to make this the first initiative to keep the memory of a truly special person alive," Cognini stated.

Fans pay tribute to Astori after his passing at Artemio Franchi Stadium.

Astori played 109 games for Fiorentina, scoring three goals and handing out three assists. He was named team captain prior to the beginning of what would turn out to be his final season.
