Match facts

  • These two sides have clashed five times before, with all but one coming in international friendlies.
  • Brazil is yet to lose in any of those encounters with Russia, winning three and drawing two.
  • The home side has lost only one of their last six games, a 1-0 defeat vs Argentina. They also earned impressive draws with Spain and Chile.
  • The Selecao drew their last game 0-0, a clash with England, but is undefeated in their last seven matches.

Friday’s clash between Russia and Brazil will be an excellent opportunity for both sides to prepare for the upcoming World Cup. While the host is unlikely to challenge for the title like their opponent, a respectable tournament is expected by the home fans.

Locking horns with Tite’s crew will give Russia a taste of what it’s like to face a giant. So far, they have fared well, drawing 3-3 against 2010 World Cup winner Spain and losing by a small 1-0 margin against 2014 runner-up Argentina.

The South American giant, on the other hand, will test how they will manage without Neymar. The PSG ace is out with an injury; however, with the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Philippe Coutinho, Willian, and Roberto Firmino being called up, Tite is not short of talented players.
