Bayern's Jupp Heynckes sets UCL record with win

Bayern's Jupp Heynckes sets Champions League record with Besiktas win

March 14, 2018 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
Another milestone for the man with the Midas touch!

It’s been nothing but a rapid ascendency for Bayern Munich ever since Jupp Heynckes took over the reins. The Bavarians endured a tough start to life earlier this season under the supervision of Carlo Ancelotti but the decision to part ways with the Italian has yielded great dividends despite initial opposition.

They are currently atop Bundesliga with 20 points separating them and second-placed Schalke and are also on course to win the DFB Pokal having progressed to the semis. Wednesday’s UCL Round of 16 second-leg encounter at Besiktas saw the indomitable Jupp Heynckes reach another landmark in what is his fourth managerial stint for the Bavarians.

Per the European competition’s historical books, the 3-1 victory against the Turkish team made the 72-year-old manager the first to have won 11 consecutive games in the competition. However, Heynckes’ run stretches as far back as the 2012/2013 treble winning season as he has overseen six wins since taking charge in October 2017.

A treble de ja vu beckoning?
