Preview

Although Roma did throw away a vital lead against Shakhtar, the Giallorossi have been quite impressive since then. They've notably beaten league leaders Napoli, scoring four goals during a six goal thriller to become only the second side besides Juventus to defeat the Partenopei, and last weekend, recorded a comfortable 3-0 win over Torino.

That makes it seven goals in their past two games, which sees Eusebio Di Francesco's men sitting comfortably in third spot, three points ahead of cross-town rivals Lazio. Furthermore, Roma did manage to finish top of a group that included Atletico Madrid and Chelsea, and did beat the Blues 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico to earn their position as group winners, while they also secured a 3-3 draw against Antonio Conte's men at Stamford Bridge. With that in mind, it's hard to imagine Shakhtar shutting them out as they aim to make their first ever quarter-finals appearance in a decade.

As for Shakhtar, their only success in the round of 16 came at the expense of Roma, when they beat the Giallorossi 6-2 on aggregate back in the 2010/2011 edition of this tournament. With a 2-1 lead in hand, they obviously will be hoping this is a positive omen as they hope to have a repeat of the same result and secure their spot in the last eight alongside Juventus, Liverpool, Manchester City, and reigning champs Real Madrid.
