Mourinho in constant contact with Barca ace

Man United boss Jose Mourinho calls Barca ace on a regular basis

March 9, 2018 By Ali M.
The Special One looks to strengthen his squad over the summer to bridge the gap between the Red Devils and Man City.

While Man United occupies second position in the Premier League, the gap between the Red Devils and Man City is enormous. As a result, Jose Mourinho is understandably looking at players to improve his squad.

The Special One has been linked with a move for Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti in a bid to strengthen the Old Trafford defense. Sport now claims the Portuguese ace is in constant contact with the French center-back.

The former Lyon ace arrived at Camp Nou a year-and-a-half ago but has quickly become one of the league’s best defenders. This has grabbed the attention of Mourinho, who has been calling the 24-year-old on a regular basis to tempt him into a Blaugrana exit.

According to Sport, Umtiti is yet to make a decision over his Barcelona future. A move away from the Catalan giant is possible, as Man United is ready to offer him more than double what he earns from the Liga leader.

The Premier League giant is willing to trigger the player’s $74m release clause. Currently earning $4.9 per season at Camp Nou, Man United will offer him $11m-per-year to jump ship.

Yannick Umtiti, the defender’s brother and representative, has reportedly held meetings with Man United. Valverde’s side has been made aware of the Red Devils’ interest. Barcelona is thus working on extending his current deal, which doesn’t expire until 2021.

Countrymen Pogba and Martial, both of which ply their trade at the Theatre of Dreams, are trying to convince Umtiti to join them in England. Although it remains unclear what Samuel’s decision will be, signing him would be a great boost for the Special One’s back four.

But for now, Jose will have to do with the defenders at his exposal. His back four will face a serious threat this weekend, as Man United gears up to face the Mane-Salah-Firmino trio in their clash with Liverpool on Saturday.
