Ferdinand questions Spurs' ambition and mentality

Ferdinand questions Spurs' ambition and mentality after UCL exit

March 7, 2018 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The former Manchester United defender was critical of Tottenham's performance in the European cup competition.

Prior to kick-off in Wednesday’s game, the London club was hugely inclined to sail through to the Last 8 stage having drawn 2:2 in Turin. It looked even more promising when the in-form Heung-Min Son opened the scoring for Pochettino’s side with just six minutes left in the first-half.

However, the good feeling that came with it only lasted momentarily as second-half goals by Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala sealed an emphatic 4:3 aggregate win for the Bianconeri. This change in fortune subsequently caused Rio Ferdinand to rue Tottenham’s inability to make a real statement of intent in the UEFA Champions League.

"This is yet another hurdle that they haven't got over," the former English defender stated while giving analysis of the game on BT Sport.

"Mentally they've got to be able to come back from this.

"We've mentioned the foundations that they're building at this football club, but these are the moments that they need to get over."

Aside Tottenham not being able to run shoulders with the big guns in Europe, the defeat put an end their 15-match unbeaten run at Wembley (W13 D2).
