Wenger keen on Ligue 1 ace

Arsenal eager to sign $63m Ligue 1 ace before the World Cup

February 17, 2018 By Ali M.
Wenger has his eyes on a talented playmaker. Meanwhile, their need for a defensive midfielder remains unresolved.

Arsene Wenger could easily be a collector of diminutive playmakers, as the Frenchman is reportedly interested in signing another attacking midfielder in the summer transfer market. This is despite the fact that Henrikh Mkhitaryan recently joined a Gunners side that boasts Mesut Ozil.

Le Prof’s target is Nabil Fekir, a France international of Algerian descent who has been tearing Ligue 1 apart this season. The 24-year-old has 16 goals and six assists under his belt for Lyon in 22 appearances, meaning he contributes to a goal every single match.

Arsenal is not the only club to have scouted Fekir, as Real Madrid has watched him a number of times over the season. Nonetheless, Le Prof is eager to land him before the 2018 World Cup, as a good display in Russia could see his price tag and competitors rise.

As of now, Lyon wants $63m for the playmaker. However, the Daily Mail suggests his employers might be unwilling to sell to the north London side as they are reluctant to lose another key player to the Gunners – last summer, Alexandre Lacazette left Parc Olympique Lyonnais for the Emirates Stadium.

Wenger could also go after Jonny Evans in the summer, as their need for defensive cover grows. Updates on a defensive midfielder, the one position Arsene continues to ignore, remain unknown.

Fans continue to call for an upgrade on Xhaka and Elneny, as their need for a physical presence in the middle of the field continues. Only time will tell if Wenger will address this key flaw in his squad.
