Jack Wilshere, the once-promising English midfielder that has seen his career halted by injuries, has now worked his way back into Arsenal’s lineup. The Englishman has been a regular presence in the Gunners squad and looks set to be rewarded with a new deal.
His current contract is set to expire in the summer. Mesut Ozil extended his stay and now Wenger is confident the Three Lions man will follow suit. The 26-year-old, who has been at the Emirates since a young age, is expected to take a wage cut.
His new deal should see him earn around $125,000 per week (£90,000). However, incentives have been included depending on his number of games and success.
Le Prof, on the other hand, faces a sticky situation with Aaron Ramsey. His contract, unlike Wilshere’s, has 18 months left before it expires, but John Cross of the Mirror claims there is less certainty over his future at the Emirates.
The Welsh ace knows that his next contract will be his most important one, as he will be 28 when his current deal runs out. There is interest from Spain in Ramsey, but Wenger has made his desire to keep Aaron in north London clear.
The 27-year-old is likely to demand a pay raise after seeing Ozil secure better terms. Currently on a $139,000-per-week salary (£100,000-a-week), he earns three times less than the German playmaker.
As for now, both Ramsey and Wilshere will have their eyes on Saturday’s north London derby. The two midfielders will be fighting for a start, as the League Cup finalist make the trip to Wembley to face Tottenham in the league.
