Sportswear giant, Nike, has unveiled the kits to be worn by the Super Eagles at this year’s FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The kit sponsor, alongside the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), revealed the aesthetic gear for the first time at a ceremony held in London on Wednesday, February 7. According to Nike’s official website, the home kit’s design is inspired by both jerseys worn by the 1994 World Cup qualifying team and the 1996 Olympics Football gold medal-winning “Dream Team”.

A statement from the official website of the kit designer reads as follows:

“Nike’s energetic collection for the Nigeria Football Federation is imbued with the Naija spirit.

“There is the requisite odes to the Super Eagles’ on-pitch success (the home kit carries a familiar badge recolored to honor the ’96 gold medal-winning "Dream Team") and tradition (as always, there’s a full green kit, though it’s now the away stripe rather than the home).

“But at heart, the looks are driven by a desire to channel a healthy reserve of exuberance.”

Interestingly, the team will be wearing the white kit as its home jersey in Russia rather than the traditional green kit, which will now be the away kit. The Super Eagles are expected to don the shirts for the first time on March 23 and March 27, respectively, in their pre-World Cup warm-up games against Poland and Serbia.
