The sporting director of AS Roma, Monchi, has finally had a say in Daley Blind’s purported move to the Italian club which collapsed.

The Holland international was rumored to be the successor to fullback Emerson Palmieri who joined Chelsea in this winter transfer window. The 27-year-old has been surplus to requirement at Manchester United since Jose Mourinho took over the reins. With 25 games played in the English Premier League, the versatile left-back has started just three out of the five matches he’s featured in so far.

Addressing the media during the official unveiling of Roma’s latest acquisition, Jonathan Silva, Monchi confessed that the Red Devils fullback was not the best fit for the Seria A club.

“Since I arrived I have been learning and getting to know this club: I know that I have to get better in Rome but I have also been able to get better. For me, this team has a lot of talent.

“He [Blind] was offered to us, but he was not the player that we needed,” Monchi added according to Gianluca DiMarzio.

New-boy Jonathan Silva is currently filling the void left by Emerson on a loan basis from Sporting. However, Roma has the option to make the 23-year-old left back's move permanent in the summer.
