The Algerian ace has been heavily linked with a move away from King Power Stadium. Liverpool, Arsenal and the Citizens have shown interest in signing him.

The winter transfer window is about to close, and teams in Europe are desperate to sign the needed reinforcements to guarantee or boost their title hopes.

Such is the case of Manchester City, a team that recently set a new transfer record with the signing of Aymeric Laporte. Added to that, City execs want to add more talent to their squad, and Riyad Mahrez is the player they want to sign before January 31, with an estimated transfer fee of €65M (some $80M), according to the Daily Star.

Mahrez has already handed in a transfer request to facilitate his departure from King Power Stadium, although Leicester's coach Claude Puel has repeatedly denied any interest in letting the player leave during the current window. Earlier this season, Mahrez handed a transfer request to join Arsenal, but the Gunners failed to present a bid to sign the footballer.

Manchester City's interest in signing Mahrez emerged due to Leroy Sane's injury, prompting Pep Guardiola to find a top-caliber replacement. Mahrez was crucial for Leicester City's successful EPL run in the 2015-16 season, which ended with the Foxes lifting the Premier League title.
