Chelsea’s Carlo Ancelotti avoided the sack in December despite a torrid run of results which is yet to end. Amazingly, the Italian didn’t suffer execution as the majority of Chelsea fans have been calling for.
It’s not at any big club like Chelsea that a coach can afford to misguide his team match-day by match-day without facing the boiling frustration of its owners before subsequently being dismissed. In London, however, there is a 51-year-old man who has managed to keep hold of his prestigious coaching position despite falling victim to this poor record: 5 defeats and 4 draws in the club’s last 12 matches in all competitions as well as 20 points dropped from a possible 30 since the beginning of November in the English Premier League!

His name is Carlo Ancelotti – also sarcastically known by some angry Chelsea supporters as the man who’s incompetence has been revealed since Ray Wilkins departure from Stamford Bridge. Fact: From the top of the English Premier League table where they were enjoying quite a comfortable lead at the beginning of the season, the Blues have dropped down onto 5th in the standings.

Another alarming fact is that they keep stumbling to poor results such as their recent 3-3 draw at home to Aston Villa instead of capitalizing on the mistakes of their rivals. After all, Chelsea are “only” 9 points behind Manchester United who are yet to find a solid form this season, so why can’t they move up higher in the standings?

Well, putting the Blues’ disappointing record aside, there are other questions which will keep galloping in the minds of many just as within the conscience of one at the centre of this subject – Carlo Ancelotti: how could he avoid the axe at Chelsea? How did he win the patience of Roman Abrahamovic who appeared to be harsh on ex-Blue manager Avram Grant?

Certainly, only luck has saved Ancelotti who talked about his situation at Stamford Bridge with the Daily Mail ahead of the Wolverhampton vs Chelsea match. The former AC Milan boss who presumes that he might have been axed long ago if he had been in Italy, could only avow:

“I’m a lucky man. I understand that a lot of coaches are sacked after results like these.”

Indeed, Carlo Ancelotti certainly is a lucky man but when will this “luck” be found within the Chelsea team during 90 minutes of football? Lately, the Blues have lost many points in the last moments of their games as Carlo Ancelotti described it best, saying:

“Against Everton, we conceded in the 86th minute. We missed a penalty at Tottenham [in injury time] and we conceded a goal in the last minute of the match against Aston Villa.

“We have lost 6 points in the last minute and with those six points, we would have been on top of the table.”

Will Chelsea be tormented by Wolverhampton Wanderers tonight as well? The Blues have only picked up 2 points from their last 5 away matches – meaning that they’ve lost 13 points out of a possible 15, which is definitely alarming. In truth, events at Molineux on Wednesday night could be crucial in Carlo Ancelotti’s career at Chelsea. A poor result may lead to a “breaking news sack” for the Italian boss.
