The Portuguese defender was one of the players who left Los Blancos last summer, following their second straight UCL win.

Pepe's latest comments regarding Real Madrid's fanbase may not go down well among those who supported him during good and bad days with the Spanish giants.

Speaking in an interview with Turkish reporters, the 3-time UEFA Champions League winner with Real Madrid shared his views on how Spanish and Turkish fans differ when supporting their respective teams, aiming a dig at Los Blancos' fanbase.

Maybe the fans of Real Madrid - and you can be mad at me for what I am going to say - people say that the fans of Madrid transmit enthusiasm to the team, but I do not believe it. The reality is not that. The atmosphere of Besiktas and Real Madrid is very different," Pepe stated.

The Portuguese defender went on to explain why he believes that Besiktas' fans do a better job in supporting their team rather than Real's loyals.

The fans of Besiktas are very passionate and when we are leaving the field it always surprises me the noise coming from the stands. People love this sport, they are always thinking about football, and after the games the noise is heard until dawn,”he added.

Pepe's word might come as a shock to some, as he was once one of the most respected Real Madrid players during his ten years at the club. In fact, Los Blancos' supporters used to get into heated debates while defending Pepe, mainly because fans from other teams referred to him as a "dirty" player.
