The Stars and Stripes bottled it in the final game, losing 2-1 to Trinidad and Tobago to miss out on a ticket to Russia.

On Tuesday, the unexpected happened in CONCACAF. USA bottled their final World Cup qualifier to miss out on the 2018 World Cup, finishing fifth in the standings – outside the playoff spot.

Bruce Arena’s men were in third heading into the final game, sitting two points ahead of both Panama and Honduras. USMNT locked horns with Trinidad and Tobago, an easy game on paper, but came out with an embarrassing 2-1 loss.

That was the end of the road for the 2017 Gold Cup winners, as Panama and Honduras both won their respective fixtures to leapfrog USA. Fans of the CONCACAF giants were left humiliated, but the reaction to their shocking defeat was nothing short of hilarious.

It didn’t take too long for the blame game to start. Fingers were even pointed at president Donald Trump, but the most common culprit was the manager. Some predicted Arena’s sacking, whilst others were quick to name candidates for his replacement.
