Rankings & Permutations

Here's how things look ahead of MD 10 in Group A

The Netherlands have to win by a seven-goal margin to come second ahead of opponents Sweden and reach the play-offs

Sweden must better whatever France do to pip Les Bleus to pole position

Still, they could afford to lose by a whopping six goals to the Netherlands and still take a play-off spot

France have guaranteed a top-two finish and at worst a play-off; they need to match whatever Sweden do to clinch first place and automatic qualification

Preview

France are already guaranteed at least a spot in the play-offs, regardless of how things turn out. Of course, Didier Deschamps's men are playing at home and given that their opponents have picked up a dismal five points from nine qualifying games, Les Bleus are expected to cruise to a relatively comfortable win. That's despite missing Paul Pogba and recently, N'Golo Kante due to injury, as Belarus simply don't have the skill or overall quality to trouble France much whatsoever - especially with players like Antoine Griezmann, Kylian Mbappe, and Alexandre Lacazatte within their ranks.

As for Sweden, they will be welcoming the Netherlands. The Oranje will have to absolutely crush the Blågult in order to have any hope of snatching a play-off spot, and that's highly unlikely to happen. Sweden are coming into this game having scored 12 goals against the likes of Belarus (4-0) and most recently, Luxembourg (8-0). Of course, the Netherlands are a much tougher foe and it's hard to see Sweden scoring that many against Arjen Robben and company, but in the same vein, it's equally difficult to see them shipping at least seven goals sans reply.
