Rankings & Permutations

Here's how things are in the group ahead of the matches

Spain are already guaranteed a top two finish. All La Furia Roja need to qualify is to better Italy's result. If the Azzurri lose, they draw or win. If the Azzurri also win, then they also win.

However, if they surprisingly lose to Albania, and Italy beat Macedonia who still have something to play for as they are not eliminated just yet, things will be decided on the final matchday - albeit Spain's 3-0 win over Italy will surely help them seal an automatic spot based on their better head-to-head record. A draw against Israel on the final matchday will be enough for Julen Lopetegui's side.

Meanwhile, Italy will be guaranteed at least second place if they draw.

Preview

Israel, Macedonia, and Liechtenstein have been already eliminated. As things stand, it's a battle between Italy and Spain, but Albania still haven't given up hope.

Spain so far are the only unbeaten side and have scored a whopping 11 goals in their last two matches. Impressively, three of those were against Italy as they outwitted and outclassed the Azzurri in a very entertaining 3-0 match in Madrid last month. However, they are now missing some key players, including Chelsea's Alvaro Morata, who had scored four goals in Spain's last quartet of matches, as well as Andres Iniesta and Real Madrid's Dani Carvajal.

Meanwhile, Italy will face Macedonia in a must-win game for the Azzurri. Complicating things, however, for the Azzurri is the injury crisis they will be facing. Key striker Andrea Belotti is out injured, and in midfield, they will also be missing Daniele De Rossi and Marco Verratti. The team were far from impressive against Israel as they labored to a 1-0 win, and Gian Piero Ventura will be naturally expecting a better showing from his side this time around. Despite the fact that Macedonia are already out, they did cause problems for the Azzurri in their last meeting as Italy had to work really hard to secure a 3-2 win.
