The Best Men's Player finalists revealed

FIFA reveal the three finalists for The Best Men’s Player award

September 22, 2017 By Ali M.
Two players look to challenge Cristiano and usurp the Real Madrid star's title.

On Friday, FIFA revealed the three finalists for their prestigious The Best Men’s Player award. The prize looks to hail the best football player of the previous season, with Cristiano Ronaldo winning the inaugural prize.

The Real Madrid star was once again nominated, and unsurprisingly so, after helping Los Blancos win the Champions League and La Liga. The 32-year-old was the top-scorer in the Champions League, scoring a brace in the final to help his club become the first club to win back-to-back titles.

Ronaldo faces competition from his eternal rival, Lionel Messi. The Argentine racked up great numbers and individual feats in 2016/17, but was only able to get his hands on the Copa del Rey.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has begun the new Spanish Primera Division season on fire, scoring nine goals so far – more than the next two players on the top-scorers list combined.  It remains to be seen whether this could be enough to pip the favorite, Cristiano, to the prize.

The two Ballon d’Or kings will be challenged by Neymar, the Brazilian ace who became the world’s most expensive player over the summer. Despite suffering the same fate as La Pulga last season, his exploits with the national side and an excellent start to life in Ligue 1 sees him competing with Cristiano and Messi.

The three finalists have to wait until next month before the winner is announced. One man will be honored in an event in London, set to be held on October 23.
