Isco snubbed Barça prior to signing extension

Isco admits having snubbed Barça during contract talks with R. Madrid

September 15, 2017 By Oscar Rojas
The Spanish playmaker will play for Los Blancos until the end of the 2021-2022 season. His current deal expired next summer.

With a brand new four-year contract and a buyout clause of €700M, Isco spoke to the press after his deal with Real Madrid was announced.

Right after the ceremony which included Los Blancos' legend Emilio Butragueño, the Malaga-born footballer revealed his decision to snub Barcelona's attempts of luring him away to Camp Nou.

"Barcelona approached, but I really didn't listen to what they said. My goal was to succeed here, because this team trusted my skills. Now, I want to establish myself as a regular starter, and win as many titles as possible," the player stated.

The player also described Zinedine Zidane's influence in his current form.

"He's been really important for me, he's trusted me during complicated stages, and I've lived up to that responsibility. He gave me the chance to play closer to the opponent's net, and since he's known me for a while, he is well aware how to get the best out of me," the player added.

Isco strikes a pose with team president Florentino Pérez.

The 25-year old has played 197 games with Los Blancos, scoring 32 goals and handing out 41 assists since his arrival in the 2013-14 season.
