An 8.2 earthquake rattled the Mexican states of Chiapas and Oaxaca, leaving 96 dead and thousands injured or homeless.

Football has to be used to get people together, and in this case, Club América decided to do the right thing to help those in need after tragedy hit Mexico.

Last week, an 8.2 earthquake took a massive toll on the Southeastern region of Mexico, particularly in the town of Juchitán, Oaxaca. The border state of Chiapas also suffered massive damage in some cities, and the Mexican people have come together to help their brothers in need by donating drinkable water, food and medicines. But there's more to be done, and Las Águilas decided to step up with a classy gesture.

After the earthquake, one of the survivors picked up a Mexican flag from a local government office that fell down and placed it above the wreckage. The image has become a symbol of hope for those affected by the event.

Next week, the two most winning sides of the Mexican top flight, América and Guadalajara will clash in the Mexican Clásico, and all proceeds from that game will be used to help the efforts to re-build the Mexican Southeast region.

In a press release issued yesterday, Las Águilas annouunced the decision to donate the box office from their most relevant home game of the season to this cause.

"Club América will join the efforts to help our distressed brothers in Oaxaca by donating the entire box office from our game against Chivas. We urge our fans to collaborate and buy their tickets for this game," stated the press release.

As of now, América is ranked 2nd in the Apertura 2017 tournament. Chivas have struggled to defend their title from last season, and are now ranked 15th after winning their first match of the competition last week.
