EPL Matchday 3 stats, ft. Morata, Arsenal

Stats: Morata sets EPL record, Arsenal register awful numbers

August 28, 2017 By Ali M.
The Gunners endured a torrid round, but Morata; Benitez; and Heurelho Gomes reached impressive feats.

Another interesting Premier League round has gone by. Matchday 3 featured two top-six clashes, whilst Man United hosted Leicester.

The Red Devils won – and there were similar victories for Chelsea and Man City. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for Arsenal, who were thrashed 4-0 by Liverpool.

Romelu Lukaku and Sadio Mane, with three goals each, are tied in first in the topscorers chart. Henrikh Mkhitaryan remains this season’s assist king with five, with his Man United side topping the table with nine points.

Here a few interesting stats from the recent round.

Alvaro Morata sets Premier League record

In the pre-season, the Spaniard was already being labeled a mega-money flop for failing to score. A lot has changed since making his Premier League debut.

Morata has played at Stamford Bridge only twice, and he has scored and assisted a goal in his first two home games. He’s the first player to do that.

Arsenal’s attack failed at Anfield

The 4-0 loss to Liverpool has killed Arsenal’s hopes of winning the league after only three games. A lot is left to play for, but a team dismantled like that could never challenge for the title.

Their defense was weak, but their attack fared no better, failing to make a single shot on target the entire game. Maybe benching Lacazette was a mistake.

Harry Kane’s August woes continue

Despite being one of the Premier League’s deadliest forwards, Harry Kane’s still cannot find the back of the net in the month of August. The 1-1 draw with Burnley, which he failed to score in, means his wait continues.

The drought stands at 13 games and counting.

Benitez reaches impressive feat

Newcastle’s promotion sealed Benitez’s Premier League return. His third game since that return – a 3-0 win over West Ham – earned him his 500th English top-flight point. He’s only the 9th manager to reach this feat.
