The transfer window has seen some crazy rumors, with one outrageous speculation emerging on Friday. According to Sky Italia, Chelsea and Arsenal are plotting a player swap deal.
The London giants had a bitter transfer, but their relationship eased up during Petr Cech’s move to the Emirates. Now, another switch could occur soon.
Sky Italy: Arsenal want swap deal with Chelsea - Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for Nemanja Matic
— Kaveh Solhekol (@SkyKaveh) July 14, 2017
The report claims that the Gunners will sell Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to the Blues. In return, the north London outfit will land Nemanja Matic.
Chamberlain has long been linked with an Emirates Stadium exit. The Englishman favors a midfield role, but has had to settle for a wing-back role in Wenger’s new 3-4-3 formation.
The Englishman’s contract ends next summer, and his desire for a central role will likely see him leave Arsenal. Liverpool have been linked with the 23-year-old, but he now appears destined to arrive at Stamford Bridge.
Matic, on the other hand, will lose his starting role at Chelsea. The arrival of Bakayoko means the Serbian will get demoted to the bench. The Blues midfielder was linked with a Mourinho reunion at Man United, but that deal might not happen anymore.
Although a swap deal is unlikely, Conte’s admiration for Chamberlain and the Arsenal player’s refusal to sign an extension might make this improbable deal happen.
