The French left back was part of Atlético's youth teams, which forced Los Blancos to negotiate with their neighbours.

Real Madrid have completed their first signing ahead of the 2017-2018 season, as French left back Theo Hernández will be unveiled in front of the team's supporters next week.

Hernández, who grew up playing for Atlético Madrid, forced Los Blancos to negotiate with Los Colchoneros, as both teams had agreed not to sign any players from each of their squads. In fact, Theo Hernández is the first player signed by Real Madrid with a history of playing for Atlético in 15 years.

Real Madrid revealed details of the player's signing and unveiling ceremony in a press release.

"Real Madrid C.F. and Atlético de Madrid have agreed the transfer of the player Theo Hernández, who will be contracted to the club for the next six seasons. The player will be presented next Monday, 10 July at 7:30 pm, in the presidential box at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, after undergoing the corresponding medical examination," the press release reads.

The player celebrated this news by retweeting Real Madrid's press release.

"The moment we've been waiting for has arrived. Greetings to my new fans!"

The 19-year old left back played his first and only season in the Spanish top flight with Alavés, scoring two goals and handing out four assists in 38 games played for the Mendizorroza club in all competitions. He's expected to fight for a starting spot with Marcelo, following Fabio Coentrao's departure to Sporting Lisbon.
