Preview - Two familiar opponents face off

In short, this will pit two increasingly familiar foes against each other. Whilst this will be the first friendly between the Stars and Stripes and the Black Stars, Ghana certainly will have some aspect of revenge on their minds as they lost the last encounter against the United States. That came after winning two back-to-back World Cup meetings in 2006 and 2010 by an identitical score-line of 2-1.

For the USA, this will represent another opportunity to for Bruce Arena to continue fine-tuning his squad ahead of the upcoming Gold Cup. A look at the team will show that there are some big names missing, namely Seattle Sounders' Clint Dempsey and rising Borussia Dortmund starlet Christian Pulisic. That being said, there are plenty of others hoping to stake a claim for themselves with the World Cup just around the corner, and should the USA - as expected - qualify, these players will be doing their utmost best to force themselves into Arena's plans.

Ghana, meanwhile, come into this game having experienced a mixed start to 2017. The Black Stars have won four, lost four, and drawn one of their games (including friendlies) and ended up on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline against Mexico in their most recent tie. Ghana's WC chances are hanging by a thread, but there are several USA-based players in the squad who will be familiar with many of their opponents across the pitch. One of these, David Accam, has been quite excellent for Chicago Fire, with ten goals and six assists so far, and Kwesi Appiah will hope to see him replicate this same kind of form as Ghana aim to assert themselves against a familiar opponent on Saturday.
