The clash between Portugal and Chile in the FIFA Confederations Cup has just gotten more exciting with Arturo Vidal’s latest remarks on Cristiano Ronaldo. The Bayern Munich midfielder blasted the Ballon d’Or favorite to reporters ahead of their meeting.
The South American champions earned their spot in the semi-final after finishing second in their group, behind leaders Germany. This set up a tie with the Euro 2016 winners.
The Real Madrid super has been in sizzling form for club and country, winning the Champions League and La Liga in 2016/17. In Russia, the 32-year-old has scored twice and assisted once en route to making the last four.
This did little to impress Vidal, who blasted the four-time Ballon d’Or winner as a “smart a**”. He told reporters (as per the Daily Mail): “Cristiano is a smart a**! 'For me he does not exist.
“I have already told my Bayern Munich team-mate [and Germany international] Joshua Kimmich that we will meet again in the final!”
Germany, who won Group B ahead of La Roja, take on Mexico in the semis. The World Cup winners are favorites to progress to the final, where they will meet either Chile or Portugal.
Perhaps Vidal is still bitter about his team’s Champions League exit at the hands of Ronaldo. The Portuguese ace scored a hat-trick in a game which saw the Chilean midfielder wrongly sent off.
