2017 has just gotten better for Cristiano Ronaldo, as the Portuguese superstar topped Forbes Highest-Paid Athletes of 2017 lists. The 32-year-old retained first spot for the second consecutive year, beating LeBron James and rival Lionel Messi.
This comes after the four-time Ballon d'Or winner won both La Liga and Champions League. The Blancos ace scored a brace in the final to beat Juventus 4-1 to win the title for a 12th time, making him favorite to win the upcoming Ballon d'Or award.
According to Forbes, Cristiano earned $58m in salary from June 1, 2016 until June 1 2017. The former Man United ace earned a further $35m in endorsements, taking his total earnings to $93m.
Ronaldo was only one of two football players to feature on the list, the other being Barca superstar. Although La Pulga only trailed the Real Madrid ace by $13m in total earnings he finished two spots behind the Portuguese ace - in third.
The Argentine ace earned $53m in salary over the last 12 months with the Blaugrana. His endorsements, including Adidas, earned him an extra $27m in a disappointing season in which he won only the Copa del Rey.
LeBron James, the man who finished ahead of Messi, earned significantly less than the two best footballer in the world. The basketball star earned $31.2m in salary, but endorsements worth $55m saw him rise to second.
