Top 5 friendly matches to watch on TV (June 5-7)

June 5, 2017 By Angela Asante
Italy vs Uruguay, Spain vs Colombia and the women’s friendly – Sweden vs USWNT – are some of the top friendly matches to watch live from June 5 to June 7.

Say goodbye to the 2016/17 European club football season. Congratulations if your favorite team clinched silverware this year. Better luck next time, if they didn’t! The late ending of the UEFA Champions League campaign means that it is only this Monday that the FIFA International Break gets under the spotlight.

The UEFA World Cup 2018 qualifiers will not resume until Friday. In the meantime, coaches and players have been warming up for the occasion via friendly matches. This midweek, there are five key international friendly fixtures in particular that you can watch live on TV in multiple countries across the globe.

Here’s an overview of what to watch from June 5 to June 7:

Belgium vs Czech Republic on TV: kick-off time and where to watch

Belgium, who are leading the way in Group H with a massive (+20) goal difference and a two-point advantage over Greece, have been rocked by the unfortunate injury of Eden Hazard. The latter will not feature in Monday evening’s showdown against the Czech Republic whose qualification challenge is tough as they occupy the third place only behind heavyweights Germany and solid Northern Ireland.

Watch Belgium vs Czech Republic on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 11:45 AM PT/2:45 PM ET. In the United States, tune in on ESPN3 USA, ESPN Deportes+ USA, WatchESPN or ESPN Deportes USA.

Denmark vs Germany on TV: kick-off time and where to watch

Speaking of the Germans, Joachim Löw has an array of new faces at his disposal – seven, to be precise. They include PSG shot-stopper Kevin Trapp whose experience in the UEFA Champions League could earn him the nod ahead of Barcelona’s Ter Stegen in replacement of Manuel Neuer who is still recovering on the sidelines.

For the Danes, Tuesday’s friendly match presents an excellent opportunity for them to apply massive pressure on Group E’s bottom side Kazakhstan come Saturday. Indeed, in a group like Denmark’s, goal difference could decide the outcome for the eventual runners-up. As of Matchday 5 in the European World Cup qualifiers, Poland seat comfortably on top of the table with a 6-point lead while the Danes have got to settle for the third position behind Montenegro due to a lesser goal difference.

Italy vs Uruguay on TV: kick-off time and where to watch

Despite being in action just like Saturday in Juventus’ heavy loss to Real Madrid, Gianluigi Buffon was called up in the squad to face Luis Suarez’s Uruguay. And he is not the only Old Lady star man to have made the roster for Wednesday’s international friendly. Defenders Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci also made the cut.

Meanwhile, for the opposition, French Ligue 1 Player of the Year Edinson Cavani is a huge doubt. The Uruguayan striker was forced out of last Sunday’s disappointing 3-1 defeat to the Republic of Ireland.

There will be no broadcast of Italy vs Uruguay in USA but viewers in Italy can watch the friendly on RAI Uno whereas Uruguayans back home can tune into ESPN Cono Norte from 6:45 PM Universal Time on Wednesday.

Spain vs Colombia on TV: kick-off time and where to watch

It’s one of these matches where younger ones will want to impress. Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal, whose season ended on May 27 after the Gunners’ FA Cup triumph, is gearing up to play without Champions League heroes Isco, Sergio Ramos and the likes.

“As players, we never stop training and now we are working with U21s who bring a lot of joy and energy to the team. We are focused on the match.

“It's a very important occasion, and you can tell in practice,” Monreal concluded.

Sweden vs USA on TV: kick-off time and where to watch

Of course, we cannot mention major FIFA fixtures without citing the women’s friendly match between Sweden and the USWNT. This Thursday clash rounds up Live Soccer TV’s take on the key encounters to watch live on TV in midweek.

Fans might be saddened by the fact that Alex Morgan won’t recover in time to participate in the match. She worsened her hamstring injury last week when she started in the Women’s Champions League final only to limp off midway into the first period.

The explosive forward should be replaced by Lynn Williams.

Watch Sweden vs USWNT on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 10:30 AM PT /1:30 PM ET. In USA, watch the match on Univision Deportes USA, WatchESPN, ESPN2 USA or fuboTV.
