The Catalan defender also referred to chants from Real Madrid fans during Los Blancos' title celebrations earlier this week.

Gerard Pique is at it again, and this time, he left no stone unturned while aiming a dig at La Liga's referees.

The outspoken center back appeared in a press conference after the unveiling of a football pitch in his home town. There, the Catalan defender criticized Spanish referees while demanding the use of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) next season.

"We weren't able to win the title because we made less points than Real Madrid. Referees having anything to do with it depends on your point of view, and it can be influenced if you live in Madrid or here. What I do know is that VAR technology is necessary, and even though I've been fined because of my words previously, I'll say it anyway: La Liga's referees are not fit to do their job on their own," the player stated.

Back in February, Pique was handed a 3,000 fine due to his comments after Barcelona's clash against Villarreal, where he even blamed La Liga president Javier Tebas for influencing referees against Los Blaugranas.

Piqué also referred to the insulting chant sung by Real Madrid's fans during their title celebrations on Monday, sparked by Los Blancos' right back Dani Carvajal. The Catalan center back dismissed having hard feelings against his La Roja team-mate, as he knows where his heart is.

"It was just in the heat of the moment. They were celebrating and I understand that. I didn't take it as an insult. I know Dani very well, I play cards with him and he's a good lad. He texted me about it and I told him I didn't need him to apologize," Piqué added.

The center back refused to speak about Barcelona's new coach, while admitting that Ernesto Valverde would be a good fit to lead Los Blaugranas next season.
