The Man United boss is unhappy about the Dutch giants' participation in the tournament this season.

On Wednesday, Man United will lock horns with Ajax in the Europa League. The Red Devils will rest a few players in their final Premier League game of the season against Crystal Palace in order to win in Stockholm.

Mourinho’s men know how important a win will be in the final. The Red Devils will finish outside the top four for another season, meaning beating the Dutch giants is their only way into next season’s Champions League.

However, the Special One feels Wednesday’s opponents should not even be in UEFA’s second-tier club competition. The Portuguese manager argues against Champions League clubs who lose in the play-offs dropping into the Europa League.

This is how Godenzonen found themselves alongside the Old Trafford side, by losing their Champions League play-off. Speaking ahead of the final, Jose said (as per the Mirror):

“They are a Champions League team, they come from the Champions League, I always disagree with it.

“I think a team shouldn't play two European competitions in the same season, they should go home, they shouldn't have the option to play the Europa League.

“The Europa League is for teams who go into the Europa League, like us. We finished fifth last season, so we went into the Europa League.

“We started the Europa League from the beginning of the season and we have had to fight to be where we are.”

Mourinho, who has won the Champions League twice, also praised the Eredivisie outfit. He hailed their youthful squad, praised the club’s “good scouting and education system”, and applauded Ajax boss Peter Bosz’s “fantastic work”.
