Still about already-decided fates and Manchester United confirmed their finish in sixth position after drawing goalless away to Southampton. However, there remains an element of thrill as third-placed Manchester City (75) and fourth-placed Liverpool (73) have not yet sealed qualification to the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League season. The Gunners of Arsenal are also hot on both teams’ heels. So many questions arise, at this point...
Here’s what you need to know on Week 38's Top 4 race:
- Arsenal must win and hope that Liverpool lose points on the last Matchday
- If Arsenal draw at home to Everton, they could still finish fourth provided Liverpool lose to Boro by more than two goals.
- To clinch automatic UCL tickets, Arsenal must beat Everton and have Manchester City lose away to Watford by a favorable goal difference.
- A draw would be enough for Liverpool to finish fourth as long as Everton steal points away from the Emirates
- Liverpool will acquire an automatic spot in the group stages of next season’s Champions League campaign if they beat Middlesbrough and if Manchester City lose to Watford.
- The Merseyside Reds could still grab the last automatic third spot even if Manchester City draw; it would be a matter of goal difference between Liverpool (+33) and the Citizens (+36).
- If Manchester City clinch at least a point on Sunday, it would deny Arsenal any hopes of qualifying automatically for the Champions League.
