The Algerian ace slipped and made two touches in the spot kick, forcing the referee to rule it out.

On Saturday, Man City hosted Leicester City in one of the highly-anticipated games of the weekend. With the race for a top-four finish being tights, everyone was watching this game to see whether the Citizens would slip-up or not.

Pep Guardiola’s men managed to grab a narrow 2-1 win, a result which will do wonders for their Champions League hopes. Silva’s opener and Gabriel Jesus’ strike were enough to see off last season’s Premier League winners.

However, Leicester could have walked away with a point had it not been for Riyad Mahrez. The visitors were awarded a second-half penalty which would have put the game level had the Algerian converted from the spot.

Mahrez was brought down by Gael Clichy in the penalty box, with the Foxes being awarded a spot kick. Mahrez stepped up, but a slip saw his effort ruled out.

Last season’s PFA Player of the Year slipped and thus kicked the ball into his standing foot. The ball deflected into the back of the net, but the referee spotted the two touches and dismissed Mahrez’s goal

Many were unhappy by Mahrez’s blunder, none more than Arsenal fans. Gooners were hoping to see Man City slip-up in order to aid the north London outfit’s late push for a top-four finish, but were left disappointed. The Gunners’ biggest hope is Liverpool losing at West Ham on Sunday.
