The Gunners need to win Wednesday's game in order to keep their chance of qualifying for the Champions League alive.

On Wednesday, Arsenal will make the trip to Southampton in the Premier League. It will be a crucial tie for the Gunners, as they can gain ground in the top four race.

The Saints will be difficult to overcome, a task that has been made all the more difficult by a few injury doubts to Arsene Wenger’s crew. The Frenchman revealed ahead of the midweek tie that Granit Xhaka and Laurent Koscielny face fitness worries.

The Swiss midfielder endured a recurrence of his ankle injury, resulting in Le Prof taking him off the pitch during the 2-0 win over the Red Devils. The former Borussia Mönchengladbach ace stands a better chance of featuring than the French defender.

“Koscielny might not be available tomorrow, he will have a test today,” Wenger said in a press conference.

“Xhaka is similar, but he looks to have recovered well and his news is better. But he will have a test today.”

The loss of Laurent will be costly, as he has been instrumental in the club’s defense. His experience has helped the Gunners’ backline, being the only player to start in every game in Wenger’s new 3-4-2-1 formation.

Holding has impressed alongside Arsenal’s vice-captain; but fielding the youngster, Gabriel, and Monreal could hamper Arsenal’s chances of making the top four.
