The Bundesliga leaders travel to the Bernabeu on Tuesday, but could have key players back to overturn the deficit.

Bayern Munich make the trip to Santiago Bernabeu in Tuesday’s highly-anticipated Champions League clash. Less than a week after losing 2-1 at home to Real Madrid, the German giants must now overturn the deficit without the advantage of home support.

The Bavarians could receive a boost in the form of team news ahead of their second-leg quarterfinal tie. The Bundesliga leaders could welcome back Robert Lewandowski, Jerome Boateng, and Mats Hummels in time for the midweek clash.

This is according to Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, but the German icon was more optimistic over the trio’s recovery than certain. He said (as per Marca):

"There will be a test on [Hummels] this afternoon.

"Everything went well in [Sunday's] training session, as it also did in the case of Boateng.

"[Lewandowki] has also returned to training with the rest of the group.

"We now just need to wait, but we're not going to be too pessimistic."

Lewandowski was a huge absentee from the first leg. After hurting his shoulder in the 4-1 win over Borussia Dortmund, he had to helplessly watch his team lose at the Allianz Arena.

The Polish ace’s return would be great news for Carlo Ancelotti. In the 2-1 defeat, the lacked a threat in the box and could use the man who scored four past Los Blancos in a single game.

Boateng (abductor) and Hummels (ankle) would be the cherry on top of the cake. However, the defensive duo would put Bayern in trouble should they lose the race to be fit.

Javi Martinez’s sending off in the first-leg means he will be suspended for the Bernabeu affair. This means Ancelotti might have to opt for a Kimmich-Alaba center-back partnership if Boateng and Hummels fail to recover in time.
