David Villa scored a 50-yard goal for NYCFC vs Philadelphia Union on Friday 14 in the MLS. The trending goal captured the attention of football fans on social media and even before they could get over it, another star, Clint Dempsey of Seattle Sounders, was an inch away from scoring a similar goal against Vancouver.
How lovely would it be to end the evening with some two stunning goals from two of the biggest stars in the Stateside league? Well, the gods of football were apparently not on Dempsey's side, or at least, they spared us the endless debate and comparisons that such a goal would have generated, particularly on social media.
Just like Villa's, Dempsey muscled for the ball at the center of the park, saw the goalkeeper off the mark, and chipped it over him. But the goalpost had other goalkeeping roles in mind. Watch the goal below.
