The Englishman hasn't featured for the Red Devils for nearly a month, with his Old Trafford career all but over.

Jose Mourinho handed the final blow to Luke Shaw’s Man United career in a recent meeting with reporters. The Portuguese boss openly admitted that the Englishman is “a long way behind” his team-mates in a candid assessment.

Shaw, 21, was once a promising full-back. Now, he struggles to make the squad under the Special One. When asked why the former Southampton ace didn’t make the bench for the draw with West Brom, Mourinho signaled that the player’s time at Old Trafford is up.

“It is difficult for him to be on the bench,” he said, as per the Independent. “I cannot compare him with Ashley Young, with Matteo Darmian, with Daley Blind. I cannot compare the way he trains, the way he commits, the focus, the ambition. I cannot compare. He is a long way behind.”

When told that Shaw was one of England’s brightest talents, Jose responded with: “Joe Hart is an England international and is playing on loan in Italy.”

The left-back hasn’t started for the Red Devils in nearly a month, with his last appearance coming in the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth. Mourinho was upset with the player after the game because the Englishman was caught chatting with the opposing team’s players.

Their bitter relationship can be traced to 2014, when a 19-year-old Shaw snubbed Mourinho’s Chelsea in favor of Old Trafford. The Special One was not willing to meet the player’s £130,000-a-week demand, as he saw it a wage too high for a teenager.
