The Colombia captain is not setting a good example in this worrisome period for Los Cafeteros.

Things are not going all too well for the Colombian national team. Their campaign to qualify for the 2018 World Cup has been shaky, as they sit in fourth and are in danger of losing that automatic qualification.

As a result, Los Cafeteros have come under heavy scrutiny from the media back home, with their dip in form doing little to help. Things will now almost certainly spiral even more after the recent action from captain James Rodriguez.

The Real Madrid man is reportedly unhappy with the press’ treatment of Jose Pekerman’s side. This boiled over in a recent run-in between the player and journalists, with Marca posting a picture of the Blancos ace holding up the middle finger to the reporters.

James Rodriguez, Ecuador, Colombia, World Cup Qualifying

This has created a controversy in Colombia, who could miss out on a ticket to Russia despite their lovely campaign in the 2014 edition. Los Cafeteros have one more qualifier to play before the international break ends, needing a win ease the fear.

They travel to Ecuador, whom they boast a mere one-point advantage over. Chile are also only a point behind, meaning failure to win could see James Rodriguez and Co. fall further down the standing.
