Here's why the USMNT has a high chance of beating Honduras on Friday when they face off in their World Cup qualifier

As the USMNT prepares to take on Honduras for their World Cup qualifier at the Avaya Stadium, there have been concerns over the quality of the hosts' squad. Bruce Arena comes into this match with a lengthy list of injuries - Bobby Wood, DeAndre Yedlin and Fabian Johnson have all been ruled out due to injury. Jordan Morris is also a doubt while Jermain Jones has been suspended.

But judging from the history of the MNT at home, the visitors almost have zero chance of making getting a win or even a draw here.

Before the defeat to Mexico last November, Bruce Arena's men were unbeaten in World Cup qualifiers at home in 15 years. The Americans have progressed to the World Cup for the last seven consecutive editions of the competition, and they shouldn't have a problem qualifying for next year's competition in Russia.

And it's not like those seven editions of the qualifiers have been a smooth ride - they MNT have battled injuries and suspensions along the way and still made it to the big stage.

And the home lost to Mexico had all fingers pointing at former USMNT coach Jurgen Klinsmann for his tactics. Some of the players appeared to criticize his approach to that particular game, and the same sentiments were shared by some pundits.

But now, under Arena, things have started to shape up. Since taking over in November for the second stint with the national team, he has played two games, won one, drawn one and lost none.

Another factor that gives the hosts the upper hand in this clash is Honduras' poor away record. The Catrachos have won only two away games in their last two qualifying rounds. That's a total of two wins in two games away from home. Within that period, the Americans have triumphed over the Honduran side twice.

Lastly, despite the injuries and suspensions, the USMNT still boasts of top notch players. The likes of Tim Howard, John Brooks, Michael Bradely, Christian Pulisic and Jozy Altidore are way too good to lost at home in this clash.
