Arsenal are just about to reach the Last 16 of the Champions League. The Last 7 Teams Hopeful Of Qualifying – Who Are They?

From Group A to Group C, as well as in Group F and Group G, everything has been decided in terms of Last 16 qualification. In these sections, the other two contenders must settle for what their respective positions can offer them – an Europa League spot or an exit from Europe.

Tottenham Hotspur, Internazionale, Schalke 04, Olympique Lyon, Manchester United, Valencia, Chelsea, Marseille, Real Madrid and AC Milan are all in a table where it’s become impossible for the rest of their opponents to join them into the next stage of the Champions League. In Group D and Group E, the question remains: who will join Barcelona and Bayern Munich respectively into the Last 16 of the Champions League?

Meanwhile, Group H is certainly the most open one with Shakhtar Donetsk, Arsenal and Sporting Braga all having a chance of going beyond the group stages of the competition. Interestingly, none of the top places have been secured going into match-day 6. In short, here are the names of the 7 teams still vying for Last 16 tickets:

From Group D: FC København, Rubin Kazan
From Group E: AS Roma, FC Basel
From Group H: Shakhtar Donetsk, Arsenal, Sporting Braga

Rubin Kazan could offer Russia more pride by qualifying into the Last 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday.

Champions League: Group D – Rubin Kazan To Lift Russia’s Flag High?

Russia won the right to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup last Thursday and there could be more good news for the Eastern European country on Tuesday night. Russian representatives, Rubin Kazan, have a mathematical chance of progressing into the Last 16 of the Champions League.

However, their task is huge and their fate doesn’t lie in their own hands. Rubin Kazan are behind København in the table’s standings with 6 points whereas the Danish side counts 7 points.

Beside this disadvantage, there’s the fixture factor which makes København more favorites to reach the Last 16 of the Champions League. The fact is that although Rubin Kazan may be motivated by history to clinch victory away to Barcelona on Tuesday night, København are very much likely to defeat 4th placed Panathinaikos.

In late September, the Danes inflicted a 2-0 loss on the Greeks in Athens and they have been tipped to complete the double over their counterparts when they will host them at the Parken Stadion on Tuesday night. As a victory will guarantee København of a place in the next round of the Champions League, Rubin Kazan need to cross their fingers and hope that things go their way.

Group D will see Barcelona vs Rubin Kazan and København vs Panathinaikos Athens taking place on Tuesday, December 7, 2010.

AS Roma have a good opportunity of progressing into the Last 16 of the Champions League.Champions League: Group E – Can AS Roma Hold On?

The Giallorossi commenced their Champions League campaign on a poor tone at the frustration of their supporters as they lost to Bayern Munich on the first match-day. However, the victories they recorded at home to CFR Cluj and away to FC Basel have proven to be crucial. Now AS Roma are almost safe thanks to the 3-point advantage that they hold above FC Basel.

Actually, the Italians better not take anything for granted on Tuesday night. Although CFR Cluj are completely out of Europe in 4th position in Group E, they could also prevent AS Roma from qualifying for the Last 16 of the Champions League. The Giallorossi’s mission on match-day 6 is to clinch at least a point; that will be enough for them to join Bayern Munich for the next phase.

Analytically speaking, AS Roma are favorites to defeat FC Basel’s challenge and eventually make it. However, nothing has been decided. Will we see Basel’s troop eclipse the Roman soldiers?

Group E will see Bayern München vs Basel and CFR 1907 Cluj vs AS Roma taking place on Wednesday, December 8, 2010.

Champions League: Group H – Arsenal Have Still Not Qualified!Cesc Fabregas and Arsenal will have to play Europa League football if things don't go their way in the Champions League.

It’s incredible. Arsenal have scored 15 goals, they mastered 6-0, 3-1 and 5-1 victories on the trot to hit 9 good points after match-day 3 of the Champions League. But, as the competition prepares to enter its 6th match-day, the Gunners can still not boast of Last 16 tickets!

What is actually going wrong to Arsenal in the Champions League? How did they allow themselves to lose away to Sporting Braga after losing to Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine?

Well, the truth is that Group H’s English representatives are behind leaders Shakhtar. They are also locked on 9 points since match-day 3, meaning that they could lose out on a Last 16 spot if results don’t go their way on Wednesday night.

Arsenal need a point to reach the next stage of the Champions League, but if they lose against Partizan Belgrade at the Emirates, then they’ll have to hope for a Shakhtar Donetsk win in Ukraine.  Let’s see if the Gunners can end the story of their Champions League group stage adventure on a perfect note by grabbing the top spot.

The undecided Group H will see Shakhtar Donetsk vs Sporting Braga and Arsenal vs Partizan taking place on Wednesday, December 8, 2010.
