The German World Cup winner bids farewell to the Red Devils after falling down the pecking order under Mourinho.

He was an exciting signing, but Bastian Schweinsteiger’s move to Manchester United from Bayern Munich amounted to little. Now, the German midfielder can call an end to his nightmare in England.

It has finally been confirmed that the 32-year-old will bid farewell to the Red Devils almost two seasons after joining the club. The World Cup winner will be headed to Major League Soccer.

Schweinsteiger has agreed to join the Chicago Fire, as confirmed by the Chicago Tribune. The player had held talks with the MLS side previously, but opted to remain with Jose Mourinho’s side past the January transfer window.

Fire asked, however, that the midfielder join them now, and United agreed. The one-year deal was agreed on Monday, and it will go through after a medical and visa is completed.

Schweinei, who signed for the 20-time Premier League winners in July 2015 under Louis Van Gaal’s reign, found playing time hard to come by under the Special One. The Portuguese tactician forced the retired German ace to train alone or with the Under-23 side.

The midfielder made four appearances for the club before agreeing to an exit, with those outings coming in the League Cup and the Europa League. "I've always sought opportunities where I hoped to make a positive impact. My move to Chicago Fire is no different,” the former Mannschaft captain is quoted as saying by the Tribune.

The newspaper also quotes Chicago Fire manager Veljko Paunovic as hailing their new signing as a “huge example of a champion”.
