Match facts

  • Atletico are already 4-2 up from the first-leg, with the return fixture being played at their own home.
  • Diego Simeone’s boys know how to beat Bundesliga opponents. The Spanish club have won their last seven two legged meetings with a German opposition.
  • Leverkusen have lost five of their last eight games.
  • Bayer have also never won a Champions League round of 16 tie.

Team news

Progression is already in Atletico Madrid’s hands. They have one foot in the quarter-final, thanks to their 4-2 win in the first-leg, and need only a draw to make it to the next round.

Leverkusen have to throw everything at their opponents in order to seal a remarkable comeback. However, their shot at victory has a huge obstacle – injuries.

The Bundesliga outfit have several key players sidelined. Çalhanoğlu  continues his suspension which will see him miss the remainder of this season, whilst Havertz can’t feature due to exams.

However, Tayfun Korkut’s selection worries don’t stop there. Bender is out due to an ankle injury, with Kiessling (hip), Tah (thigh), and Toprak (ankle) joining him on the sidelines.

Simeone also has a few worrisome absentees. Both Gabi and Filipe Luis are suspended, with both Gameiro (abdomen) and Torres (head) in danger of missing out.
