Roma's successful season has much to do with Luciano Spalletti's coaching. But fans may not want to know that, if Francesco Totti leaves the team this summer, their coach could follow the legendary player's footsteps away from the club.
Speaking in a press conference, Spalletti revealed that his job as Roma's boss would conclude if the team's execs decide that Totti's time with them should come to an end.
"What matters are the players. We must extend Totti's contract. That wasn't the question? I'll talk about it anyway. If they let him go, I'll leave beside him, even if we win the treble (League, Cup and UEFA Europa League)," Spalletti stated.
Roma's coach has had a change of heart when it comes to Totti, since the pair didn't enjoy a great relationship when the manager returned with the team. In the same press conference, Spalletti praised Totti's drive, hinting that the club needs more players that give all for the club in order to be true title contenders.
"You can't win with just 'one' Totti around. We need 18 of his kind. Francesco Totti needs to sign a contract, because currently, he's linked to the club via a love pact with the city," the coach added.
The Giallorossi are seven points behind Serie A leaders Juventus, with their next game being a crucial tie against Inter.
