As Real Madrid prepare to take on Napoli at the Bernabeu in the Champions League, we tell you why the Italian club should not be underestimated.

Even with the absence of Gonzalo Higuain, who joined rivals Juventus last summer, Napoli are still a force to reckon with in today's tie against Real Madrid. Ahead of the last 16 tie at the Santiago Bernabeu, we take a look at the numbers that have made the club from Naples stand out this season.

Napoli's unbeaten run

The Italian Serie A giants are currently enjoying a run of 18 match without defeat in all competitions. Their last defeat was against rivals Juventus in October when Gonzalo Higuain (pictured below) scored the winner. Real Madrid could break the unbeaten run, or become the latest victim of the mercilessness of the Serie A side. Lorenzo Insigne

The Dries Mertens factor

With 16 Serie A goals and four assists to his name this season, Napoli forward Dries Mertens is surely the man to watch on the visitor's side. The Belgian forward has two goals less than what top scorers Higuain and Edin Dzeko have scored for Juve and Roma respectively this season in the Serie A (18 goals). Dries Mertens

Napoli's high goal-scoring ratio

Real Madrid are well-known for pumping goals past their opponent's nets at will but Napoli have been equally good this season. They have a goal-scoring ratio of 2.4, compared to Los Blanco's ratio of 2.7. The Italian giants have also scored 10 goals in their last three games, which makes it an average of three goals a game. On the other hand, Real Madrid have scored eight goals in their last three games - an average of 2.6 goals a game.

Whichever way you look at it, football fans are expecting a thrilling encounter at the Bernabeu. Having converted Mertens into a goal-machine since Higuain's departure, it would be interesting to see what coach Maurizio Sarri has in store for Los Merengues. And now that Real Madrid's greatest rivals Barcelona were humiliated 4-0 by PSG on Tuesday, you can bet that the Madrid club would want to humiliate their Catalan counterparts even more by thrashing Napoli on Wednesday night. Statistics aside, may the best team win!
