The Blaugrana feel the Uruguayan was wrongly sent off and look to overturn his suspension for the final.

On Tuesday, Barcelona booked their spot in the Copa del Rey final, maintaining their shot at winning the King’s Cup for a third straight year. However, that progression came at a cost.

The Blaugrana saw two of their players sent off during a heated clash with Atletico Madrid. First Sergi Roberto received his marching orders, with Luis Suarez picking up his second yellow shortly before the final whistle.

This was the Uruguayan’s first sending off in a Barcelona jersey. However, if the Catalan giants have their way, the 30-year-old will be available for selection for the final versus either Celta Vigo or Deportivo Alaves.

The defending Spanish Primera Division champions announced that they will fight Suarez’s second yellow card. Barcelona announced in an official statement that they will present an appeal to the Competition Committee.

Suarez was sent off for “striking an opposing player with his arm in a reckless manner while contesting the ball”, as written in the referee’s report. Enrique’s side disagree, and are now ready to reverse Suarez’s suspension.

After the game, Suarez launched an attack on referee Jesús Gil Manzano’s decision to send him off. The former Liverpool ace argued his innocence, calling the red card “a joke”.

Barcelona also announced that they will appeal Sergio Busquets’ booking. The midfielder was shown a yellow card for kicking the ball away in “expression of disagreement” despite the fact that there was another ball on the field.
