Will Ghana be able to qualify for the semis for a sixth straight time?

Ghana

In the last edition, Ghana made it all the way to the finals, only to lose to the Ivory Coast on penalties. The Elephants have since been eliminated from the tournament after crashing out in the group stage. Ghana, who are hoping to qualify for the semis for a sixth straight time, secured their spot at this juncture by finishing second in their group. Two 1-0 wins over Uganada and Mali were followed by a 1-0 loss to Egypt, but it was still enough for Avram Grant's men to book a spot in the quarter-finals.

The Black Stars haven't exactly impressed so far, with just two goals in their group stage campaign. Fans were given some major worries after Asamoah Gyan limped off injured during the tie with Egypt, but their fears have been allayed someewhat as the skipper reportedly returned to training. Should he be able to feature, Gyan, who is Ghana's all-time top scorer, could reach two significant milestones. It would be, first, his 101st cap after making his debut back in 2003, and he could potentially reach 50 goals if he nets against the Leopards.

Other players who will have to be on their best form include Atletico Madrid's Thomas Partey. The midfielder has been quite solid in the middle of the park for the Black Stars and will have to continue in this vein of form to help see Ghana past the Leopards. Another player who fans will be expecting to step it up is Jordan Ayew. Given that Ghana's attack has scored a measly two goals - and one of those was via a spot-kick by Ayew's elder brother Andre - the Aston Villa man needs to really start converting some of his chances as they may be at a premium in this upcoming game.

DR Congo

As for the Leopards, they secured their spot here by finishing top of their group, whilst scoring six and conceding three. They narrowly edged out Morocco 1-0, tied reigning champs Ivory Coast 2-2, and defeated Togo 3-1 to end up with seven points. Key, to their success, of course has been their strong team effort, but there are certain players who deserve a special mention.

One of these is Junior Kabananga. Prior to the AFCON tournament, he had scored just one goal for the Leopards, but has now added three more to his account after netting in every single one of DR Congo's group stage games. He currently plies his trade for Kazakh outfit Astana and is a veteran of AFCON tournaments, having won bronze with the team at the last edition. All in all, Kabananga, who is a tall and powerful striker, could cause problems for Ghana's defense with his strength and aerial ability.

Junior Kabananga has arguably been DR Congo's star player so far at AFCON 2017
