A rematch of the 2002 AFCON final...and revenge will be on Senegal's minds

Senegal

After securing their spot in the quarter-finals, coach Aliou Cisse decided to rest ten players for their final group stage match against Algeria. It was a risky gamble, but it paid off as it finished in a draw. Moreover, this result demonstrated that the Teranga Lions are more than just stars like Liverpool ace Sadio Mane, Lazio's Keita Balde, and Anderlecht and Napoli defenders Kara Mbodj and Kalidou Koulibaly. Senegal arguably have been one of the best sides at AFCON 2017 and expect Cisse to recall all his key players for this must-win tie.

How they got here: Senegal qualified for this juncture by finishing first in Group B. First, the Teranga Lions beat both Tunisia and Zimbabwe 2-0 and then fought to secure a two-all draw with Algeria to earn a total of seven points.

Cameroon

Meanwhile, Cameroon boss Hugo Broos had a nightmare start to this campaign. Prior to the tournament, seven players decided to effectively withdraw from the squad, leaving him scrambling to find replacements. Despite the absence of several notable names, Cameroon managed to navigate their way through their quartet by grinding out some tough results. This has also given some younger faces a chance to shine, with Denmark-based striker Christian Bassogog having a particularly solid tournament, whilst skipper Benjamin Moukandjo will also be key for Cameroon to try to cause Senegal some problems.

How they got here: Cameroon finished second in Group A, behind group winners Burkina Faso on goal difference. They opened their 2017 AFCON tournament with a 1-1 draw against Burkina Faso, then defeated debutants Guinea-Bissau 2-1. Hugo Broos's men wrapped up their group stage campaign with a scoreless stalemate against hosts Gabon.
