Clint Dempsey appears to have shaken off a heart problem as Sounders prepare for the new MLS season.

Seattle Sounders forward Clint Dempsey has been cleared to train with the club. Sounders officially resumed their pre-season training drill on Tuesday, and Dempsey's presence was one of the key talking points. The veteran player missed the better part of last season due to an irregular heartbeat and the club is now monitoring his condition ahead of the new season. Sounders General Manager and President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey has been quoted by Sounders At Heart as saying:

“The doctors have said it’s OK for him to train. “We’ll continue to check in with them as we progress. He’s a veteran player, who hasn’t played a competitive match in six months, so there are fitness concerns around him getting back into form and doing so in a healthy manner.

“I think as a first step we have to see how he does in preseason. Once we see how he does in those, we’ll go from there.''

It is believed that the 33-year-old no longer needs regular trips to the doctors for checkups, which is a positive sign for the club's fans ahead of the new season that kicks off on March 3. Since joining the blue and green side in 2013 from Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur, Dempsey has played 72 league games and scored 34 goals.
