January 21, 2017 By Andrew Amoth Wandola
Chapecoense have started the long journey of rebuilding their club in an emotional but promising manner.

Chapecoense - a football club that attracted the attention of millions of people across the globe following the tragic plane crash that killed 77 people, including players, officials and journalists who were on board for the trip to Atletico Nacional. But despite losing all but six of their squad, the Brazilian football club embarked on a serious recruitment drive to reconstruct their team.

And as they took on Palmeiras at the 22,000-seater Arena Conda stadium in Chapeco for their first match since the crash, a sombre mood engulfed the atmosphere. One of the crash survivors, Jackson Follman, lifted the trophy on behalf of the entire team as emotions ran high in the stadium. Friends, families and relatives of the departed souls were present as thousands of fans thronged the stadium to pay their respects to the fallen heros and usher in the new-look team. The match ended 2-2. Here are some of the most emotional moments captured on camera.
