The Bayern Munich star was also subject to a record-breaking bid from the Chinese Super League.

The Chinese Super League is growing in appeal and in ambition, thus the continuous bids for some of Europe’s deadliest players come as little surprise. Cristiano Ronaldo was a reported target, as well as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The most recent of stars is Robert Lewandowski. Reports from Poland, his home country, suggested that one unnamed Chinese club was willing to make him both the most expensive and highest paid player in the world.

This came as a shock, given that the Bayern Munich superstar – linked on several occasions with a move away from Germany – is under contract with the Bundesliga giants until 2021. He put pen to paper on a new deal in December.

Cezary Kucharski, the player’s agent, claims that the former BVB man was offered a salary worth over €40m per year. SportoweFakty write that the unnamed Chinese club were willing to fork out €200m in transfer fees.

Cezary told SportoweFakty: “I was contacted by an agent who brings stars to China. The club name wasn’t mentioned. If Lewy had decided to move to China, his salary would have been significantly higher than €40m, which means more than Carlos Tevez earns.”

“It’s obvious: Lewy is not only younger but also a better player than Tevez. Robert is not for sale right now,” but I never say never. Life offers several solutions.”
